In Grenoble

La Bastille

La Bastille, the mountain fortress overlooking Grenoble, can be accessed directly from the city center by way of cable cars. There  you can enjoy the view from the highest point of the city. If you want a challenge, you can also hike one of three paths up to the fort (approximately 40 minutes).

Jardin des Plantes

An interesting park is the Jardin des Plantes, located near Park Paul Mistral. There you’ll find several hundred plants from all around the world. The Museum of Natural History is also located in this park.

 

Museums

 

Housing the works of several notable artists including Picasso, Monet, and Matisse, the Musée de Grenoble has a diverse selection of artwork that can appeal to anyone’s tastes. The museum offers collections of ancient, modern, and contemporary art from the 13th to the 20th centuries.

Around Grenoble

Vizille Castle: a historic place of the French revolution

Located half an hour from Grenoble by car or bus. The premises include a museum dedicated to the history of the French Revolution and a large park that offers beautiful scenic views.

Sassenage Cave, the Cisterns

Located fifteen minutes away from Grenoble by car. Shaped by an underground river the cave, les Cuves, is situated in the Vercors mountain range. Explore the galleries and enjoy this unforgettable natural spectacle.

Located an hour away from Grenoble by car. The Grotte de Choranche, is another natural marvel situated in the Vercors. Enjoy a guided tour through several galleries and rooms next to underground rivers in this enchanting cavern.

Monteynard

Located 30 minutes away from Grenoble by car. Interested in a more active adventure? Discover the beautiful Monteynard Lake where you can cross over the lake by way of suspension bridges. The full hike is four hours and 30 minutes. Be sure to take a bottle of water and hiking shoes!
